Windy Acres Farm in Orlinda, TN (45 min. north of Nashville) is a cooperative effort of several families committed to stewarding the land and animals in their care. In 1986, Alfred and Carney Farris established Windy Acres Farm as part of the solution to the ever-growing crises of topsoil degradation and water pollution, integrating organic practices in all that they do, including:
- Crop rotations
- Cover cropping
- Eliminating synthetic pesticides and herbicides
- Non-GMO seeds and open pollinated seeds
- Enhancing biological soil life
- Reintroducing cattle and sheep in grain crop rotations
- Cultivating healthy, grass-fed and pasture-raised beef, pork, and poultry

Windy Acres is in the process of becoming a part of the Middle Tennessee Agrarian Commons, a bioregional non-profit land trust co-founded by Windy Acres Farm, Agrarian Commons, and Agrarian Trust for the purpose of preserving farmland, and giving farmers equitable access to land via 99-year ground leases. Agrarian Commons is committed to an equitable transition of, and equitable access to farmland especially by those historically disenfranchised from secure land access in the Middle Tennessee bioregion.

Full Time Employee:
We’re looking for a full-time employee and an intern to help manage the busy, Certified Organic grain farm with grass-fed beef, pork, and pastured poultry operations.
Pay: $2000/month, plus housing
Candidate Requirements:
- Must be self-motivated, have an excellent work ethic, and problem-solving ability
- Driver’s license and good driving record
- Two years farming experience
- Some previous experience operating a tractor
- Ability to lift 50lbs
Ideal candidates will also have:
- Experience as a diesel mechanic and/or service/maintenance of farm equipment
- Experience in welding, tractor, and mechanical experience
- Experience working cattle
- Solid understanding of organic and sustainable farming principles
Full Time Intern:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and hardworking intern. The intern will work closely with the farmers in managing rotational grazing of livestock and poultry, and learn about harvesting and milling organic grain for livestock and human consumption. The intern will attend weekly Farmers’ Markets and must be comfortable loading meat and driving a van.
Pay: $1200/month stipend plus small room with kitchenette and bathroom
Candidate Requirements:
- Must have a driver’s license and good driving record
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be comfortable attending Farmers Markets, interacting with customers and being an enthusiastic ambassador for the farm
- Must be flexible and have a good attitude
Ideal candidates will also have social media and marketing experience
