Whole Farm Planning and Mentoring Program
Whole Farm Planning and Mentoring Program from Rural Action – Spring 2021
Registration is open and participants are rolling in for this spring’s Whole Farm Planning and Mentoring program. This 10-week series will lead 20 beginning farmers and food entrepreneurs through the process of planning their business. Through weekly webinars with topic experts and one-on-one meetings with mentors, participants will learn the key components of starting a business with the goal of creating a new or refined business plan. We are seeking beginning farmers and food entrepreneurs who are committed to creating or developing their farm or food business in any sector.
We spoke to a participant in last year’s series. She reflected: “I had been through a business planning model before, but not for agricultural purposes, which is a different animal given the current food system. It was good to hear from other farmers and to be exposed to different viewpoints, resources and models.”
We are grateful for the collaboration of many partners in putting together this series so that we can better connect beginning farmers to such resources. Webinars will include presentations from ACEnet, OU’s Voinovich School, and SPICE, among others. Participants will have the individualized support of a committed mentor throughout the series and a panel of experienced farmers to learn from during each session.
Rural Action has always believed in the peer-to-peer learning model and looks forward to this opportunity to create a tight-knit cohort of beginning and experienced farmers, food entrepreneurs, and small business professionals learning and growing together.
Registration for the Whole Farm Planning and Mentoring Program is capped at 20 participants, so be sure to REGISTER NOW!
Registration closes on March 17th, 2021.

Nestled in the foothills of Appalachian Ohio, Rural Action was founded in 1991 on the principle that locally-based, sustainable, and inclusive development is the main strategy for building resilient rural Appalachian communities. Rural Action’s mission is to build a more just economy by developing the region’s assets in environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable ways. We do this work by focusing on sectors identified as important by our members: food and agriculture, forestry, zero waste and recycling, environmental education, watershed restoration, and energy. Emerging work in social enterprise development and local tourism are more recent parts of our portfolio.
