Urban Farm Project Proposals Wanted
Lansing Urban Farm Project Request for Proposals for Urbandale Farm (Lansing, MI)
Urbandale Farm has been a successful model of urban agriculture in the Eastside of Lansing, Michigan for the past eight years. Due to changes in the food system landscape in Lansing and beyond, we seek a new vision for the next phase of the farm’s operations. The Lansing Urban Farm Project (LUFP) (501c3) is seeking an experienced farmer, farmers, or farm program to manage, develop, and conduct agricultural operations at Urbandale Farm, including growing produce for the local community while maintaining access to the farm for educational purposes. The selected applicant will enter into a negotiated, three-year, contractual agreement with LUFP with the opportunity for renewal upon successful completion and mutual agreement.
As the farm’s parent organization, LUFP is excited to offer this unique opportunity to farmers and others passionate about urban farming. Please see the full request for proposals at https://lansingurbanfarmproject.wordpress.com/2018/11/20/calling-all-farmers-and-farm-programs/. Proposal submissions are due by January 15th, 2019. For more information please contact LUFP Board Member Jeno Rivera at lansingurbandale@gmail.com.
A little background on Urbandale Farm . . .
Urbandale Farm was established in 2010, the first agricultural venture of the Lansing Urban Farm Project (501c3). LUFP’s mission is to a) make fresh, affordable produce available to urban residents; b) develop programs that integrate food and farming into larger community-building efforts; and c) provide for economic, environmental, and cultural and social sustainability. The farm is located in the 700 block of S. Hayford in the heart of the city’s 100 year flood plain.
Since 2010 the farm has quadrupled in size and production. Today we raise and sell vegetables, flowers and herbs on five separate fields, totaling about two acres. This land has been leased to us by the Ingham County Land Bank, the City, and an individual land owner.
