Description: Responsible for performing or overseeing all greenhouse seeding according to the seeding schedule, plant monitoring and moving, watering, and basic monitoring of greenhouse mechanicals. Greenhouse duties require excellent attention to detail and previous greenhouse work experience. Chicken responsibilities include feeding, collecting eggs, moving electric fence on chicken pasture, and monitoring the condition of the flock and their housing. CSA Distribution staffing responsibilities include setting up and maintaining produce displays, handling farm store transactions, cleaning up the distribution area, and –most importantly – being the “face” of the farm for members. This position requires someone with an excellent customer service manner, good knowledge of handling and cooking with farm produce, the ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds, and the ability to multitask. Compensation: up to $9.00/hr.; workers compensation insurance; farm produce and eggs; staff discount on farm store items; 5 days paid vacation. Position: Vegetable Farm Worker
Location: Holcomb Farm CSA, West Granby, CT
Work Dates: April 4 – November 22, 2011.
Type: 45-50 hours/week.
Compensation: $8.25/hr; workers compensation insurance; farm produce and eggs; staff discount on farm store items; 5 days paid vacation.
Description: Assist with all aspects of vegetable production: propagation, tractor tillage, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing and packing, and other fieldwork. Assist with pig and chicken chores and other farm tasks as needed. Scheduled hours include rotated weekend greenhouse and livestock chores. This position requires the ability to perform manual work over long periods of time in all weather, the capability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds, the interest in working as part of a team as well as independently, and the willingness to learn how to operate tractors. Those with a strong work ethic and desire to work cooperatively with others will find this work very rewarding. Previous vegetable farm experience and the ability to drive standard preferred.
