Sustainable Farm Visit in Maine, Four Season Farm
Sustainable Farm Visit to Four Season Farm, Maine
At the end of August, I visited the farm I apprenticed at and that continues to inspire me. Four Season Farm in Brooksville, Maine is owned and operated by Barbara Damrosch and Eliot Coleman. During my visit I caught up with the farmers, current apprentices, and the newest worker: two hogs and hundreds of chickens.
The chickens and hogs are helping prepare the pasture as their manure serves as a nitrogen rich fertilizer.
The farm was looking better than ever and Barbara and Eliot are continuing to dream big and experiment freely. Their farm is a laboratory for new growing techniques, innovative tools and structures.
They are committed to teaching more people their skills, and continue to employ apprentices and interns throughout the seasons. When asked for advice to beginning farmers, Barbara natrually replied, “Make compost. Feed the soil.”
I would love to know how to build a produce trailer like yours! Is that possible??
How do I purchase/build the mobile farm stand that you display?
I’m in Louisiana.
William,
Please contact this farm directly. We just post these things here at http://www.beginningfarmers.org.
