Stateline Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference 2012, Illinois

The University of Illinois Extension will hold the 16th annual Stateline Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Midway Village Museum in Rockford, IL from 8:30am-4:00pm. Midway Village Museum is located at 6799 Guilford Road in Rockford.

Workshop sessions will be led by educators and experts from the University of Illinois Extension, USDA-NRCS and Royal Oaks Farm Orchard. Topics covered at the conference include small farm risk management, direct marketing, farm to school programs, pest management, the use of cover crops and organic soil amendments. This full day conference will feature a general session and breakout sessions for fruit, vegetable, and organic growers. Attendees can also visit with seed companies and other vendors serving specialty crop industry in northern Illinois.

“This annual conference provides relevant, practical information for the fruit and vegetable specialty grower – it’s a great opportunity for both learning and networking,” says U of I Extension Local Foods and Small Farms Educator Maurice Ogutu, PhD.

The fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, four general education sessions and choice of two breakout sessions. After February 16, the registration cost is $50 per person.
