SeedMoney Garden Grants Available for 2020

SeedMoney is offering 255 garden grants on a sliding scale this fall to food garden/urban farm/community farm projects across the country and around the world. We expect 400-500 applicants which means that the chances of winning a grant are quite good.

We offer “crowdgrants” which means that participating projects win our garden grants by mobilizing their crowd to make small donations via online fundraising pages that we help them set up. The average amount raised per project historically has been roughly $800 (our grant + crowdfunds raised), but we’ve had projects raise as much as $15,000. For many school and community garden projects, running a SeedMoney campaign is the only fundraising they need to do for the whole year.

The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm EDT on November 12, but we encourage early applications to beat the rush. To learn more and apply, see:  https://seedmoney.org/apply/

Thanks for either seizing the garden grants opportunity yourself or sharing it with someone else who could!

SeedMoney is the new name for what was formerly called Kitchen Gardeners International (KGI), a nonprofit founded in 2003. Over the past three years, our emphasis has gradually shifted from helping home gardeners towards offering financial and technical support to a wide variety of public food garden projects. These include community gardens, school gardens, food bank gardens, homeless shelter gardens and senior gardens, to name just a few.

We’re excited about this new direction but also proud of what we were able to accomplish under the KGI banner. Some of our most notable achievements include building an online community of 40,000 gardeners from 120 countries, winning several high profile online advocacy campaigns to protect front yard vegetable gardens from bureaucratic overreach, giving a popular TEDx talk on the importance of vegetable gardening in our changing times and, most notably, leading the successful online campaign for a new kitchen garden at the White House.
