Permaculture Internship in New York
2019 Permaculture Internship in New York at Unadilla Community Farm (May-September 2019)
*Applications for the Permaculture Internship in New York are accepted on a rolling basis.*
Unadilla Community Farm is a 12-acre organic fruit and vegetable farm and permaculture education center in West Edmeston, NY. We grow a diversity of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs, which we sell through our CSA program and through local restaurants and natural food stores. Through our farm, we are showcasing a variety of sustainable and regenerative agroforestry techniques, including no-till farming, multi-story cropping, hugelkultur, companion planting, rainwater catchment, and more. We are also building our farm’s infrastructure from the ground up, showcasing natural building methods like traditional timber framing, wattle and daub, rammed tire construction, mobile chicken tractors, and a self-sufficient tiny home with rainwater harvesting, off-grid photovoltaics, and wood burning stove.
Permaculture Internship in New York: 2019 is our 6th season accepting interns. Our accredited internship program has attracted interns from North & South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and New Zealand. Interns get hands-on daily skills training in the following areas: no-till organic farming (including raising seedlings, transplanting, bed prep, weeding, mulching, watering, harvesting, etc.), regenerative agroforestry, permaculture, landscaping, natural building, food preservation (drying, canning, fermenting), seed saving, and firewood preparation. We also offer free monthly classes for our interns throughout the season, such as soap making, lotions and salves, compost building, foraging/wildcrafting, cast iron vegan cooking, and more. In addition to skills training and monthly classes, interns receive free room and board, including all organic vegan/vegetarian meals. If you are currently in college, you may be able to get college credit through our internship as well: so far it has been accredited by both American and Canadian universities.
Upcoming 2019 projects include:
- Erecting 12′ x 40′ high tunnel
- Building 2 timber framed wood sheds and 4 additional raised beds
- Expanding our edible food forest with additional no-till alley rows, fruit and nut trees, berries, mushrooms, and beneficial companion plants

We ask our interns to commit to a 1 month minimum stay. Accommodations are rustic and include 2 lofted single bedrooms in the barn, 2 double bedrooms in our renovated school bus tiny home, and interns are also welcome to pitch a tent on one of our tent platforms around the property.
We look forward to hearing from you!
