Assistant Farm Manager Job at Heritage Prairie Farm in Illinois, starting in 2012
This is a non-seasonal position, full time throughout the growing season and shortened hours in the off season. Position starts mid January 2012.
The Assistant Farm Manager is responsible for supporting the Farm Manager in all areas of organic vegetable production. This includes, but is not limited to, general farm maintenance, record keeping, greenhouse propagation, direct seeding, weeding, cultivating, irrigating, monitoring plant health, washing, packing and working with machinery, specifically traditional four-wheel tractors and walk behind two-wheel tractors. The Assistant Farm Manager’s primary responsibility is to manage the field crew under direction of the Farm Manager. This includes training and day-to-day management, making sure farm tasks are finished in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
Requirements
Excellent communications and organizational skills are required. Previous management experience and Spanish bilingual skills are a plus. Applicants should have at least 2 years of participation in commercial vegetable production. Competitive wages offered.
