Red Dog Farm 2015 Employment: 1 Production Manager Job, 1 Harvest Manager Job, and 5 Field Crew Jobs
Red Dog Farm is a 23-acre organic farm with 13 acres in vegetable and berry production. Located on the Olympic Peninsula, we are nestled in the beautiful Center Valley of Chimacum, Washington. We produce crops year-round and sell to three local farmers markets, to local restaurants and wholesalers, through our CSA program, and at our own self-serve farm stand. Red Dog Farm is going into its eighth season with farm owner/ operator Karyn Williams. Our crew consists of twelve full time employees, 5 seasonal part time employees, and volunteers. We currently have openings for one Harvest Manager, one Production Manager, and five full time Field Crew for the 2015 season. Applications are accepted and reviewed on an on-going basis until the positions are filled.
Production Manager
Compensation is hourly wage dependent on prior experience and training needed, plus fresh produce from our fields.
Time Commitment
Starts March 1, 2015
The ideal candidate would be interested and available to work year-round for several years
Hours are 40- 50 per week
Work days are Monday- Friday
Essential Job Functions
Manage employees in all crop production projects, including fertilization, transplanting, hoeing, hand-weeding, etc.
Maintain farm records including production plan, field notes, and organic certification documents
Communicate with tractor drivers, irrigation manager, greenhouse manager and farm owner
Assess crops to create weekly to-do lists, coordinating with other managers and taking into account a wide array of factors
Assist on other farm projects, taking a crew or leadership role as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Two years farm experience on a market vegetable farm
Desire to lead the work of others
Current driver’s license and good driving record
Preferred: One year management experience on market vegetable farm
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and skill in all aspects of vegetable production
Ability to motivate others and take responsibility for their performance
Desire to work well and professionally with all kinds of people
Aptitude for good judgment and flexible decision making
Ability to make work fun
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent teaching skills
Although this job does not require tractor driving, the ideal candidate would have a base knowledge of tractor cultivation
Harvest Manager

Essential Job Functions
Manage field crew employees during harvest, directing the flow of people and produce and meeting delivery deadlines
Organize harvest paperwork and product rotation
Communicate with packshed, farm stand, sales manager, and delivery drivers
Assess fields for crop location, succession harvest management, and saleable product
Assist on other farm projects, taking a crew or leadership role as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Two years farm experience on a market vegetable farm
Desire to lead the work of others
Current driver’s license and good driving record
Preferred: One year management experience on market vegetable farm

Knowledge and skill in all aspects of vegetable harvest, post-harvest handling and packing
Ability to motivate others and take responsibility for their performance

Excellent teaching skills
Ability to be flexible to changing priorities and deadlines
Field Crew
Compensation is hourly wage of $9.50 per hour plus fresh produce from our fields.
Time Commitment
Field Crew positions begin April or May and run through December.
Length of commitment will be negotiated before hiring.
Hours are 40- 45 per week.
Essential Job Functions
The primary responsibility is to harvest.
In addition, there is a lot of other field work including but not limited to transplanting, hand weeding, hoeing, and moving irrigation.
There are also the following roles to fill: farmers markets, delivering, farm stand stocking, washing/packing and tractor driving.
Minimum Qualifications
One season previous farm experience preferred
Strong interest in farming necessary
Flexibility to learn new methods and farm systems
Good communication skills
Energetic, fun and motivated personality
Excellent work ethic and positive attitude
Conscientious and able to work with all kinds of people
Strong back and knees
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
Willingness to fully commit to the farm for the season
Preference given to those interested in staying on for multiple seasons
