2018 Apprenticeship Opportunity
Riverstone farm is a production-oriented, certified organic vegetable farm in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. We have over 10 acres in cultivation with 2 acres in perennial crops and the balance dedicated to annual vegetable production, including over ½ acre in high-tunnels and greenhouses. The farm property consists of over 100 acres of mixed woodlands, pasture, prime cropland and river bottoms. We have small cabins available as residences for farm staff. We are in close proximity to the Josephine Porter Institute, Spikenard Farm and are a short drive from the town of Floyd and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Riverstone is now reviewing applications for 2018 apprenticeship positions. Apprenticeships at Riverstone are designed for people with some farming experience who are seriously considering farming as their career.
- Riverstone is a production-oriented, wholesale organic vegetable farm. We will bring a limited number of apprentices on to the farm for the 2018 season.
- Apprenticeships take place during the height of the growing season, typically from May to October.
- Apprentices will be involved in all tasks related to growing, harvesting and packing vegetables on a commercial-scale. Apprentices will be placed on a team with experienced staff members and will gain experience in fields, greenhouses and in the pack-house. Apprentices will be expected to keep pace with the farm staff.
- Activities will include: seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, mowing, irrigation, wash/grade/pack/ship. Apprentices will be working with hand and power tools, as well as tractors and implements.
- Apprenticeships are full-time positions on the farm. Apprentices will work with the farmers, five full days and one half-day per week.
Compensation is as follows:
- Lodging: Private cabin provided.
- Salary: $200-$250/week depending on experience and length of apprenticeship.
- Food share and kitchen space provided.
- Participation in any farm events and/or field trips.

2018 Internship Opportunity

Riverstone is now reviewing applications for 2018 summer intern positions. Internships at Riverstone are designed to give people interested in farming their first season of experience on a working farm.
- Riverstone is a production-oriented, wholesale organic vegetable farm. We will bring a limited number of interns on to the farm for the 2018 season for a working internship.
- We are offering both summer (+/- 3 mo.) and full-season (+/- 6 mo.) internships.
- Interns will be involved in all tasks related to growing, harvesting and packing vegetables on a commercial-scale. Interns will be placed on a team with experienced staff members and will learn methods and procedures on the job – in the fields, greenhouses and in the pack-house.
- Potential activities include: seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, mowing, irrigation, wash/grade/pack/ship. Interns will be working with hand and power tools, as well as tractors and implements.
- Interns will work four full days and one half-day per week.
Compensation is as follows:
- Lodging: Private cabin provided.
- Salary: 1st year interns are paid $100/week for first 3 months, $150/week thereafter. Applicants with previous experience may apply for our Apprenticeship program.

- Participation in any farm events and/or field trips.
