The Case for Next Generation Crop Insurance

Recently, the AGree Economic and Environmental Risk Coalition (AGree E2 Coalition) released a new paper: The Case for Next Generation Crop Insurance. The comprehensive paper reviews mounting scientific evidence for the risk reduction benefits of agricultural conservation practices as well as policy barriers to broad adoption, before proposing recommendations to bring the federal crop insurance program in alignment with these practices.

RELEASE: NSAC Applauds USDA Announcement of $500 Million for Expanded Meat and Poultry Processing Capacity

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) applauds the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement of $500 million in additional funding to bolster small- and medium-scale meat processing plants, and additional actions to level the playing field for farmers and ranchers.

“National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) commends USDA for its commitment of $500 million to help expand meat processing capacity by strengthening tools to empower small- and medium-scale operators,” said Eric Deeble, NSAC Policy Director “For far too long we have witnessed how inadequate competition stifles economic growth and innovation throughout the agricultural supply chain,” Deeble added.

UPDATE: Extension on USDA Request for Comment on Racial Justice and Equity

The USDA recently opened a public comment period to receive input on Executive Order 13985, “Identifying Barriers in USDA Programs and Services; Advancing Racial Justice and Equity and Support for Underserved Communities at USDA.

The extended deadline to submit a comment is Saturday, August 14th.
