Farm Crew Member Wanted for New Jersey Market Garden – 2021

Position Description

Abe’s Acres Farm, a New Jersey Market Garden, is seeking an energetic and hardworking candidate to join our farm crew for the 2021 season. Farm crew members are involved in all aspects of vegetable production on our ¾ acre no-till market garden. We work extremely hard, and diligence and attention to detail is absolutely essential. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, able to master tasks and perform them efficiently, and interested in learning about vegetable growing. You will have the opportunity to learn from the owner’s 8 years of experience in small-scale vegetable production.

Farm Description

Abe’s Acres Farm is a diversified no-till market garden situated on a historic family farm in beautiful Hightstown, NJ. We grow over 40 crops and over 150 different varieties on ¾ of an acre, including a greenhouse, high tunnel, and caterpillar tunnel. We sell through a small CSA and two local farmers markets. This will be our fifth full growing season.

Required Skills and Responsibilities

Farm crew members will be involved in all aspects of vegetable production including propagation, field production, high tunnel management, harvesting, washing/packing, and marketing. Skills/responsibilities include:

• Able to lift 50 pounds and spend extended time bent over and kneeling for harvest
• Work well with a team
• Communicate effectively with other crew members and with the owner
• Able to work long hours in all kinds of weather
• Able to quickly master new tasks, remember them, and perform them effectively and efficiently in the future
• Able to commit to the full season of March-November
• 1+ years of experience in agriculture preferred, but all candidates will be considered

Compensation and Hours

Expect to work 45-50 hrs per week. Pay range is $10–$12/hr depending on experience. Compensation also includes access to abundant fresh vegetables from the farm.

Employment Dates

March 1st is the preferred start date, but this can be flexible for the right candidate. Job runs through Dec. 1st.
