Dynamic, Multi-Species Farm seeks Full-Time Sustainable Farm Apprentice – Multiple Positions Available in Saxapahaw, North Carolina – 2019
Position Title: Sustainable Farm Apprentice
Position Start Date: Open until filled
Position Duration: 3-6 months to 1 year
Position Schedule: 40-60 hours per week depending on the season; 2 consecutive days off each week
Position Pay: $10-$12 per hour with housing
Sustainable Farm Apprentice Position Description:
Reverence Farms is seeking an apprentice to become fully immersed in a full-time farming role. Previous farming experience is not necessary, but a willingness to learn and a true work ethic are a must. This person enjoys being part of a team, but is also comfortable working alone and desires to provide the utmost care for our animals and our land. This position will offer a wide-variety of farming experiences and should enable this person to have full understanding of what it will mean to own/manage a multi-species sustainable farm. This person should be fairly comfortable lifting 50 lbs. repeatedly (or at least be willing to work up to that), be comfortable spending 10+ hours per day being active as well as working in the outdoor elements.
Sustainable Farm Apprentice will gain experience in:
- Cattle (dairy & beef) Herd Management, such as:
– milking 25+ cows
– feeding hay/ setting up grazing paddocks/mineral program
– herd health/heat detection
- Sheep flock Management:
– lambing (depending on season)
– feeding hay/setting up grazing paddocks/mineral program
– trimming feet
– flock health
- Poultry Management:
– feeding broilers & turkeys
– moving broilers & turkeys in mobile houses
– feeding guard dogs
– gathering, cleaning & packaging eggs
– processing birds
- Other Misc. Tasks:
– assist with training new part-time farm hands
– other tractor work, i.e. unloading hay, bush hogging, spreading manure, seeding pastures, etc.
