Land Trust Farm Manager Position Available on Long Island – 2019

The Peconic Land Trust, formed in 1983, conserves Long Island’s working farms, natural lands and heritage for our communities now and in the future.  We are seeking a full-time Farm Manager to work at the Trust’s Quail Hill Farm in Amagansett, New York.  Quail Hill Farm, a stewardship project of the Trust established in 1990, consists of 35 tillable acres serving over 200 families.  A central part of our mission at QHF is to educate the public concerning such issues as soil health, our seed supply, food security, and sustainable, organic farming practices. Our goals include providing a plethora of delicious, healthful produce through our highly unique Pick-Your-Own CSA program, and training new farmers through our Advanced Apprenticeship Program.

The Land Trust Farm Manager is responsible, in coordination with the QHF Director, for the day to day farm operations, with a concentration on field preparation, cultivation and machine maintenance, and the supervision of apprentices and volunteers.  The Land Trust Farm Manager also coordinates harvesting for wholesale accounts, farmer’s markets, and the summer and winter CSA shares. 

The ideal candidate must have five years of farming experience including familiarity with sustainable agricultural practices, at least 50 hours of tractor operation, and an understanding of regenerative agricultural practices on a field production scale.  Preferred qualifications include fluency with Microsoft Office and Quickbooks, as well as, excellent record keeping and communication skills. Experience with organic farming, growing in the Northeast, mentoring and supervising others, CSA systems, machine maintenance, and educational farming a plus.  The position requires five years of experience and reports to the Director of Quail Hill Farm.  Housing is provided.  This is a full-time, salaried and benefited position for the Peconic Land Trust.  Additional information about QHF can be found on our website at www.peconiclandtrust.org.
