Jobs: Seasonal Growers, Silverwood Organic Farm
For the 2011 season, we are hiring four Seasonal Growers to help with all aspects of production and distribution.
Dates: May 1-late October, 2011
Hours: Monday through Friday; hours vary during season from 40-60 and will include at least one weekend a month for greenhouse watering
Compensation: $1600 monthly stipend, workman’s comp, 5 days paid time-off, produce from the farm, and participation in EMASSCRAFT meetings
Responsibilities: The Seasonal Growers are involved in all aspects of production and distribution. Specific responsibilities include greenhouse management; possible tractor operation; infrastructure and irrigation management; field prep; planting and weeding; insect and disease control; harvesting; washing and packing; and CSA distributions. S/he is supervised by and works closely with the farm manager and assistant farm manager.
Qualifications: One to three seasons of farming experience, preferably in an organic system, is required. Additionally, applicants should have serious interest in CSAs, sustainable agriculture, and certified organic standards. The ability to bring enthusiasm, initiative, and good humor to the intense working conditions of the season is essential. Also, applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, able to lift 50 lbs, and have a valid driver’s license.
