Heritage Breeds Festival – May 25th and September 28th, 2019 in Riceville, Tennessee
The Heritage Breeds Festival is a bi-annual festival that takes place in Riceville, TN. There are farmers local from the Tennessee Valley that come to spotlight their farms and products while also bringing attention to critical breeds in need of conservation. The Heritage Breeds Festival is an exhibition of animals, animal products, and a purchasing source for beginning farmers. There are educational resources available and a soap class hosted by one of our local farmers. In attendance there are goat farmers, alpaca farmers, poultry farmers, waterfowl farmers, cattle farmers, and local artisans who only use local ingredients and materials.
The Heritage Breeds Festival is on May 25th, 2019 and September 28th, 2019. Kickoff starts at 10 AM and ends at 3 PM. It is an entirely free event that is great for a day trip to the Tennessee Valley. Most products offered are grass-fed, organic, and cruelty free.
A few of the breeds that will be in attendance are Dexter (mini) cattle, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Nigerian Goats, Nubian Goats, Rex Rabbits, Walking Horses, Chinese Geese, Turkey Poults, Silkie Chickens, Runner Ducks, Kune-Kune pigs, Coturnix quail, Ayam Cemani chickens, and more!
There are also many educational materials provided by PickTN, The Livestock Conservancy, and Buchanan’s Barnyard.
Riceville, Tennessee is located directly halfway between Knoxville, Tennessee and Chattanooga, Tennessee along I-75.
The Tennessee Mrs. Agriculture USA Queen will be present and Budweiser will have a Clydesdale replica available for photos!
Freedom Farms (Loudon, TN), Goforth Farms (Athens, TN), Rocking Chair Farms (Corryton, TN), Shaefer Farms (Athens, TN), Spurs and Spokes Stables (Riceville, TN), Fleury Farms (Knoxville, TN), 3B’s Pet Boutique (Cleveland, TN), Blooming Herbals (Athens, TN), Hop & Chirp Rabbitry (Athens, TN), Lucky Ducky Poultry (Decatur, TN), Brooke’s Coop (Cleveland, TN), and Montomery’s (Dayton, TN) will all be in attendance for livestock! There will also be pony rides, educational USBORNE books, facepainting, and home-made products and gifts.
