The Viva Farms Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture – Bilingual (English-Spanish) Hands-On Course in Certified Organic Production in the Skagit Valley of Northwestern Washington State

The Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture is a bilingual (English-Spanish) hands-on course in Certified Organic production and small farm business management. Over the course of the 3-quarter program, participants will apply knowledge and practice techniques of sustainable agricultural production on a Certified Organic parcel, located at the Viva Farms incubator.  Apply now for the 2021 cohort!

As a cohort, participants in this hands-on course in certified organic production will go through an entire farming season and explore the fundamentals of organic production and small farm management, including crop & farm planning, soil health & cultivation, seed propagation, fertility & pest management, irrigation, and harvest & food safety best practices, as well as sales and marketing. After the growing season and using the actual operations and sales of the farm parcel, participants will examine the basics of farm business management, including financial statements, profitability analysis, recordkeeping, regulatory issues, access to financing, insurance & taxes and basic bookkeeping.

We are now accepting applications for the 2021 cohort. The due date to apply is February 12th, 2021.

El Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture es un curso práctico bilingüe (inglés-español) aplicado en producción orgánica certificada y gestión de pequeñas explotaciones agrícolas.  En el transcurso del programa de 3 trimestres, los participantes aplicarán el conocimiento y las técnicas de práctica de la producción agrícola sostenible en una parcela orgánica certificada, ubicada en la incubadora de Viva Farms.  
 
Ahora estamos aceptando solicitudes para la cohorte de 2021. La fecha límite para presentar la solicitud es el 12 de febrero de 2021.
