About Green Uprising Farm:

We are a five-acre community farm located about 130 miles north of San Francisco, near the town of Willits, CA., about an hour from the Mendocino coast. We are a family farm committed to shrinking our ecological footprint, healing the land, and improving its productivity. We want to face the truth about climate change and prepare ourselves and the next generation for whatever that brings. Learn more at https://greenuprisingfresh.wordpress.com/home/

Description of Green Uprising Farm Internship:

This is a 40 hr/wk, 6 month internship (April 1 to September 30, 2020) focused on dairying, growing vegetables for the Market Garden, working with apple, pear and plum orchards, growing and processing medicinal herbs and developing value-added products with the seconds from our gardens and orchards. The scope of the internship is broad and will provide a useful skill-set for an individual interested in self-sufficiency, community living, small-scale farming and homesteading. We provide modest housing with a shared outdoor kitchen and outhouse, partial board (food from the gardens, dairy and orchards), and a $500/mo stipend. Applicants should expect sometimes strenuous physical labor and should come with the understanding that speed and efficiency as well as quality work are expected. A love of animals, children, and the natural world is a must.

A prospective applicant should be interested in living a somewhat rugged, close-to-the-land lifestyle with a wide range of people of different ages, experiences and backgrounds in a situation where our daily lives are intertwined with each other.  We may be cooking together, sharing kitchen space, doing farm chores together, dealing with plumbing problems, milking goats, repairing fences or harvesting beets.  One must always be open to lending a hand to do the work that presents itself as needing to be done that day – even if it is not the work you had planned to do!  When irrigation breaks down we work to fix it.  When a goat, duck, chicken (or person!) is ill we work to heal them.  When a plant is struggling with disease or pest problems we try to assess the problem and brainstorm for solutions. The idea of community life is that we all share an interest in learning to live together in a joyful and productive way and we all enjoy care-taking the land, plants and animals and reaping the benefits of our work.
