Goat Dairy Internship in Oregon at Fraga Farmstead Creamery – 2020

We are looking for an Intern for our 2020 season from February to November! Our farm is located in the Oregon coast range, just about half way between Portland and Tillamook in the headwaters of the Tualatin Valley. We are cert. org and Animal Welfare Approved farmstead dairy producing a range of dairy products- everything from fresh Chevre to aged raw milk cheeses and caramels. We offer one full time position paid at $12/hr with and additional $150 monthly for education and training in the form of classes and field trips. We are looking for an individual that knows enough about farming to know that it’s not for everyone. In short someone that is past the toe dipping stage and ready to jump in. Our farm consists of two distinct parts The “barn side” consists of managing a herd of about 100 dairy goats in a pasture based system with milking twice daily . The “dairy side” is a licences grade A dairy technically a food processing facility full of stainless steel equipment and lots and lots of sanitation requirements. Farmstead dairy is a fascinating thing- we go from the ground up, tending to the soil, then graze the goats who thanks to their amazing gut can up cycle vegetation into something that we can turn into something even better to sell at market and thus provide shelter and hay in the winter. It is a truly a mutually beneficial relationship.

The right candidate for this goat dairy internship does NOT have to have previous dairy experience but an affinity for animals is necessary since much time will be spent with goats. The work week is 40 hours and includes a wide range of activities from milking to packaging and selling at market. Housing is provided in the farm house and meals are shared.
