Apple Seeds Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA position in Arkansas – 2019

Apple Seeds, a Fayetteville-based non-profit providing garden-based education, seeks an outgoing full-time Volunteer & Program Coordinator. The Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator will work with our Program Manager to help build organizational capacity through our volunteer program and our growing educational programs.

The Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator will coordinate and enhance the volunteer program; specific responsibilities include:

  • Prepare an annual volunteer plan and coordinate community outreach and recruitment activities
  • Maintain a database of volunteer projects
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing and training volunteers
  • Correspond with interested volunteers and collaborate with staff to identify appropriate projects
  • Complete evaluations and reports required for volunteers/interns
  • Track volunteer data, including # of volunteers, # of volunteer hours, projects, etc.
  • Provide ongoing support to volunteers

The Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator will coordinate Farm Lab educational program; specific responsibilities include:

  • Organize and maintain Farm Lab materials, including the student workbook, educational materials, cooking equipment, etc.
  • Oversee data collection, management and analysis of pre and post Farm Lab surveys to measure the program’s impact
  • Track Farm Lab data, including # of participating schools, students, and student demographics
  • Provide instruction and oversight to Farm Lab
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays
  • Ability to complete light physical tasks
  • Experience in a related field desirable, including education, nutrition, communications preferable

Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator Hours

  • Full time – 40 hours/week
  • 2 Saturdays/month during the growing season

Start Date: January 7, 2019

Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA)
The Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator is a “Volunteers in Service to America” (VISTA) position, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service for up to three years. In return for each year of fulltime service, the person filling this position will receive a modest living allowance (approx. $973 per month), health-care benefits, child-care assistance, and a $5,920 Education Award or approximately $1,800 post-service stipend. To qualify for a VISTA position, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident, and at least 18 years of age. Candidates must be available to serve full-time for at least one year. Candidates can hold another part time job provided it does not conflict with the VISTA’s service or service hours. The

Supervision and Work Space:
The The Volunteer & Garden Based Education Program Coordinator will work from the Apple Seeds office. A computer will be provided. The Coordinator will be expected to provide their own phone and car for transportation. The Coordinator will be supervised by the Program Manager. We expect the Coordinator to be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised on a daily basis.
