FOOD SAFETY NEWS
Press Release: New Food Safety Support Available to Farmers Across Sixteen States
Starting next year, produce growers in 16 states will gain access to no-cost voluntary Harmonized Good Agricultural Practices (H-GAP) and Harmonized Good Agricultural Practices Plus+ (H-GAP Plus+) audits. This important service, which will increase market access for countless family farmers across the 16 states, was made possible by a partnership between the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) and Risk Management Agency (RMA). On January 2, 2019, AMS will begin offering these no-cost audits, which are supported by Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) funds.
Food Safety News Stories from the Field: From Food Safety Training to Audit Day
An audit or inspection can be a nerve-racking experience for any business owner. Farmers in North and South Carolina, however, have greatly benefited from having a trusted ally – the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) – to help them through the process. Through their Local Produce Food Safety Initiative, CFSA, an NSAC Member, provides farmers in the Carolinas with trainings, one-on-one assistance, and practical resources to help them comply with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules and successfully pass third party food safety audits.
CONSERVATION NEWS

A new report published by the Izaak Walton League of America, a National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) member group, highlights the benefits to multiple natural resources provided by five key conservation systems currently in use on America’s farms and ranches.
