Field Assistant Wanted on New Hampshire Farm, 2014
Stout Oak Farm in Brentwood, New Hampshire is seeking a Field Assistant to join their team for the 2014 season. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 to 2 years of farming experience, ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, a strong work ethic, and a good sense of humor. They are looking for someone who can keep up a fast pace, is willing to learn on the job, can work independently, and loves working outdoors (even in challenging weather conditions). The Field Assistant will be involved in all aspects of organic vegetable production, including greenhouse propagation, transplanting, weeding, bed preparation, seeding, irrigation, harvesting, washing, and filling orders. The Field Assistant will work closely with the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager to create a weekly work plan and prioritize tasks. Good communication skills, problem solving, and flexibility are essential. The ideal candidate is motivated to hone their farming skills, and serious about pursuing a career in agriculture. Depending upon interest and experience, the Field Assistant may also take a lead role on special projects such as poultry management, plant sale coordination, perennial planting establishment, and carpentry projects.
This is a full-time seasonal position beginning in April, through the end of CSA harvest season in mid October. Part-time hours may be available beyond that point. The crew works 5 days a week, 40 – 45 hours a week, as well as rotating weekend greenhouse and animal responsibilities. Compensation depends on experience. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Punctuality is important.
