Fertile Valley Farm Opportunities in Pennsylvania
Fertile Valley Farm Seeks Employee/Intern for the 2018 Season – Honesdale, Pennsylvania
Looking for a motivated, hard-working individual to work at Fertile Valley Farm in Honesdale, PA. Fertile Valley is a small dairy and beef operation currently run by the 4th generation owner of the farm. Sustainable farming methods are currently in place, including pasture-raised livestock, and growing non-GMO feed corn for silage. The farm also maintains a small road-side stand, selling raw milk, beef, pork, eggs, and a limited amount of produce. There are also beef sales going directly to local restaurants, and projecting to start selling to a local food hub. There is a lot of room for growing the store’s operation. Currently looking to increase sales for raw milk by starting retail sales, home delivery, and selling at farmer’s markets. There is also a consideration to increase sustainability practices, with the right person leading operations. The sky is the limit for someone who is willing to take on these projects as their own.
An employee/intern has extreme flexibility when deciding how much work they want to take on. Anywhere from 1-2 hours a day maintaining current operations of the farm store, to a full-time year-round job spanning all aspects of daily farm life. Store operations include: filling milk bottles, keeping the store tidy, maintaining the grounds around the store and road frontage of the farm, and customer service. Additional farm jobs can include: daily milking chores, animal care, harvesting and storing hay and corn, and general farm maintenance.
In addition to hourly pay, and working side by side with a 4th generation dairyman, perks of this job include: onsite housing available, on-farm hunting opportunities, and possible entrepreneurial projects, depending on number of hours worked.
No prior farming experience necessary, though pay will depend on experience.
