FARRMS Intern Program on Sustainable Urban and Rural Farms Across North Dakota – 2019

FARRMS (Foundation for Agricultural and Rural Resource Management and Sustainability) is seeking interns for the 2019 growing season. Don’t let another season go by without exploring your place in 21st century sustainable agriculture. Apply to the FARRMS Intern Program today. Through the FARRMS Intern Program, participants can access a unique, field based, educational experience that broadens their knowledge. Interns experience what sustainability looks like when applied on a real world farm.

A variety of placements are available in urban and rural environments. Explore local food systems with hands on, field-based experience tailored to your interests and aspirations. FARRMS matches interns with mentor farms across North Dakota and the Red River Valley. There is a range of experience available, from farmer’s markets to crop rotation to livestock management. Mentor farms and ranches provide guidance and hands-on learning opportunities.

FARRMS augments the internship experience with farm tours, book readings and discussions, a competency-based framework, and stipends. You bring enthusiasm, positive attitude, willingness to learn new methods, and commitment to work hard. FARRMS provides program orientation to both mentor farmers and interns prior to start of internship. Internships can start any time after May 1 and go through October 15. Students returning to school in the fall can complete their internships in August. Interns will be paid a $225/week stipend for a 25-hour work week. Additional hours and pay may be worked out with the mentor farm. Interns will need a vehicle to get to and from work, and to be able to attend farm tours. Housing may be available.
