Farm & Industry Short Course Farmer Training in Wisconsin

For more than 135 years, Farm & Industry Short Course (FISC) has been the Midwest’s leading source of applied agricultural training for beginning or future farmers and students interested in working in agriculture. FISC is a 16-week certificate program at UW-Madison designed with you in mind, giving you an immersive educational experience in your area of interest in the agricultural industry.

Students learn from UW-Madison faculty and staff, as well as industry professionals, who are experts in their field.  Courses are designed to incorporate the latest research and provide students hands-on learning opportunities to get the knowledge and build their skills to be successful in the highly competitive and constantly changing agriculture industry. 

Through courses and co-curricular activities, FISC offers students personal and professional farmer training in Wisconsin, along with important networking opportunities, to start them on their future path in farming. At the end of our 16-week academic year, students are prepared to start a farm business, enter into their family’s farm business, or work in the industry.

FISC offers a small learning community for its students on campus, while providing all of the same benefits and opportunities available to other UW-Madison students. You can live on campus in designated FISC residential living with included perks like meals and flexible housing options. Or commute to campus from your home or farm, taking advantage of available on-campus parking.

The program application opens November 1st for the next academic year and can be found at our website: https://fisc.cals.wisc.edu/apply-now/. After submitting your application to FISC, we encourage you to immediately apply for scholarships; everyone who applies receives funding! Scholarship applications must be received by March 31st or July 31st to be considered for funding. No FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required to be eligible for scholarships or the FISC Tuition Promise.  The deadline to apply to FISC is September 15th.
