Farmer Adaptation to Climate Change Webinar

Adaptation to Climate Change

Farmer Adaptation to Climate Change Webinar from NH Food Alliance – November 21st, 2019

How are farms adapting to increasingly extreme weather patterns, and what resources do they need to be resilient to climate change? Learn about current strategies for farmer adaptation to climate change.

The NH Food Alliance will be hosting our November webinar next Thursday, 11/21/19 at 12:00-1:00PM about farmer adaptation and resiliency to extreme weather patterns, using research conducted by Alissa White of UVM which surveyed over 140 farmers to find out their current and planned practices to mitigate the climate crisis on their farms. Increased extreme weather events like drought and flooding are already leading causes of crop loss, and adaptation practices have huge potential to combat this loss.

Projections for climate change in the Northeast forecast increasingly severe precipitation and drought patterns which pose heightened risk to agricultural production. Already, the increased incidence of drought and heavy precipitation events are leading causes of crop loss for vegetable and berry producers.

Alissa will present her research from the New England Adaptation Survey, which draws upon the expertise of growers from all across the Northeast to explore how they are adapting to these weather events, and what support and resources they need to maximize resiliency. The results of this research offer important insights for farmers and technical support professional who support agricultural sustainability in the face of the climate crisis. Alissa is driven to approach the climate crisis from a farmer-focused perspective, and believes that stakeholder participation in science is critical to achieving success!

The Farmer Adaptation to Climate Change webinar is completely free, and will be recorded for later viewing. We will have plenty of time for you to ask questions and share your own stories, too. Don’t forget to register today!
