Farm Workers Needed in Central California
Farm Workers Needed in Central California at Vicarious Ranch – 2021
Vicarious Ranch is a 60 acre ranch in central California. We raise pastured lamb, mangalitsa hogs and a small herd of dairy goats and for personal use. We distribute meat via CSA, a few local coops and our farmstand. Mostly, we need a worker or two who can feed animals, keep our small orchard and perennials watered and do the day to day stall cleaning, hoof trimming and basic animal husbandry. We also have several livestock guardian and herding dogs. We can train you and get you up to speed but experience with animals or at least a previous manual labor is strongly prefered. Other relevant skills like carpentry or mechanical knowledge are a plus! We are downsizing our hogs so the whole operation will be small and easily kept up. There’s lots of time spent with the animals but also just checking and maintaining fences, making sure the water system has no leaks, mowing a small patch of lawn and generally spotting any problems that may occur.
We can provide housing in a nice homey trailer with hot water shower and laundry included as well as food. Compensation is dependent on experience but starts at at least 200/week during training period and we are happy to pay more for a well experienced worker.
As long as the basic property upkeep and the needs of the animals are met, there is room for independent projects like growing gardens, making soap and bath products or herbal medicine. We are also willing to be flexible with scheduling between the morning and evening chores.
We hope to find a few capable, reliable folks to humanely care for our animals even in the heat of summer and the cold winter. Must have valid driver’s license.
