About The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC)
The VYCC is a 501c3 nonprofit service, conservation, and education organization with a mission to teach individuals to take personal responsibility for all their actions. For 29 summers, the VYCC has offered residential service opportunities to youth and young adults seeking meaningful work experiences. Our program model is: small teams, well-trained leaders, and diverse crews working to complete projects that benefit the community. The
VYCC instills the values of personal responsibility, hard work, education, and respect for the environment in young people. Corps Members, young adults 16- 24, work, live, and learn together in small groups, completing priority conservation and agriculture projects throughout Vermont under the guidance of highly trained leaders.
Recruitment Specialist Responsibilities
•Recruit a minimum of forty-eight students for the 2015-2016 program (sixteen students, three semesters), with an immediate focus on Fall 2015 enrollment (sixteen students)
•Participate in trainings and orientations to VYCC and VTC
•Work with VYCC and VTC staff to:
o Create and maintain relationships with high school and college counselors, teachers and administrators, as well as gap year coordinators across the country to promote the program
o Maintain social media presence throughout the year
o Schedule presentations to high schools and colleges, regionally and nationwide
o Plan, coordinate and host campus visits and Open House events
o Assist with administrative tasks related to the program
o Maintain blog and social media sites that chronicles participant experiences each semester
• Plan for and attend scheduled Gap Year Fairs throughout the country
•Work with staff and families to coordinate weekend Campus Visits
•Maintain documentation of interested students and families
•Provide information regarding admissions requirements and program benefits to prospective students and parents and follow up as appropriate
•Assist students and families with the application and enrollment process
•Create and coordinate opportunities for news articles and interviews to promote program
•Enthusiasm and willingness to participate in, and provide logistical support for, program activities throughout the semester

•Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
•Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Outgoing, upbeat and positive demeanor
•Willingness to travel
•Valid driver’s license and good driving record
•Reliable personal vehicle
•Availability nights, weekends, holidays
Environmental Factors
The Specialist will be based out of the VYCC in Richmond, VT. The recruiter should expect to travel throughout the year, particularly during Gap Fair season (January through February). This person will join eight full time farm team members, as well as varying numbers of interns and volunteers who assist with special projects throughout the year. The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps is an organization that cultivates success using a team approach. All staff needs to balance personal initiative and independence with an ability to effectively utilize the team process.
