Assistant Farmer

• Full time (50 hrs weekly), April 4 – October 31, M-F 10 hour days, specific hours vary during the season, some evenings required

• Salaried position with one week paid vacation

Moon Valley Farm is a small scale, diversified vegetable farm.  We grow on five sites in Cockeysville and Phoenix, Maryland using organic and sustainable methods.  Our two full time farmer-owners are seeking a full time, assistant farmer to help us with all aspects of production and sales.

Specific duties include propagating seedlings, preparing planting beds, planting and maintaining crops; harvesting, washing and packing crops for sale or delivery to our CSA; working with high tunnels, drip irrigation and other low tech farm equipment, operating small machinery, taking care of our flock of laying birds, setting up CSA pickups and interacting positively with CSA members; delivering produce to wholesale customers, assisting with construction and maintenance of farm facilities and repair and maintenance of farm equipment.

This position requires a good attitude, quick thinking, excellent communication skills in person or via email/text, comfort with light machinery and power tools, the ability to follow all safety and procedural instructions and to ask when unsure.  Candidates should own good, all weather gear (raincoat and waterproof boots with good traction).  Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive at different farm sites on time and ready to work are a must.  Travel between farm sites will often be in a farm vehicle, otherwise we’ll reimburse mileage.

Harvest Assistant

• Part time (10-20 hrs weekly), May 1 – September 30, M-Th, 7:00-12:00

• Hourly position, minimum of two 5 hour shifts weekly

Moon Valley Farm is a small scale, diversified vegetable farm.  We grow on five sites in Cockeysville and Phoenix Maryland using organic and sustainable methods.  We are seeking 2 – 3 part time, seasonal employees to help us with harvesting, washing, and packing produce for our CSA and direct market sales.

During our peak growing season we need two harvest assistants on each of our 4 harvest days.  Additional hours may be available weekly to assist with large transplanting tasks and other specific projects that would benefit from more hands.  This position is perfect for someone looking for a flexible entry into farm work – even though duties and hours will be limited, you will be exposed to many important aspects of organic vegetable production.
