Farm Internships in Italy

For summer 2019 we are looking for two head interns: one to be in charge of animal care and another to be in charge of veg/fruit crops on a family-run small organic farm in the mountains of central Italy. The interns would live in the farmhouse for at least 2 months and ideally 3 full months during June, July and August 2019.  Full room and board are in exchange for an average of 6 hrs/day, 6 days/wk help, no additional stipend.

Farm Internships in Italy:

Animal care head intern: learn to feed, care for, handmilk a few friendly goats + one very gentle Jersey cow, take our herd of goats, sheep and cows to pasture daily, move mobile solar-electric fencing unit, clean barn, load hay and learn cheese- and yogurt-making.  No tractor driving. Experience with large animals is desirable but most important are interest, conscientiousness and common sense. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in one day having their own dairy animals: we are happy to invest a lot in teaching and sharing what we have learned over 15 years of handling dairy animals. 

Veg and fruit crops head intern: in charge of harvesting, irrigation, weeding, maintenance of vegetable and herb garden, vineyard and orchards, supervision of other interns and WWOOFers to help with these tasks, some food processing (jam, juices). Experience in agriculture desirable, but most important are interest, organizational skills, and the ability to listen and work with others. No tractor driving. This is a good hands-on opportunity for someone wanting to run their own market garden or CSA some day.
