Apply Now: Farm-Based Education Immersion at The Farm School – Athol, MA – 2018

The Farm-Based Education Network (FBEN) and The Farm School have partnered to offer a free professional learning opportunity this spring for farm-based educators looking for a firsthand experiences with a multi-day, residential farm program. Immerse yourself in a place where careful mentoring, meaningful work, humor and kindness are at the center of their work in farm-based education. Participants in the Farm-Based Education Immersion (FBEI) are invited to shadow the Program for Visiting Schools at The Farm School in Athol, MA while a visiting group of elementary or middle school students explore the farm.
In The Farm School’s particular model of farm education, meaningful farm work is the basis of the experience, giving children and visiting teachers the opportunity to experience their own value and capacity to contribute. The staff of Farmer-Teachers engage kids in the daily work, rhythms, tasks and culture of farm life, seamlessly integrating them into the work of the farm.

The FBEI is designed for teams of 2-3 educators, farmers or leaders who are already working together in a farm-based education organization. Participants will explore their understanding of students’ relationship to work and community by participating fully in a two-and-a-half day program. Reflection time with Farm School staff and founders is built into the experience. The intention is to facilitate the cross-pollination of approaches between organizations to uplift our collective work of connecting people to land, farms and food systems.

Program dates: 8:30 AMMonday May 28 – 1 PMWednesday May 30
Application Deadline: May 7
