Gorman Heritage Farm Job Title: Farm Assistant

Category:  Seasonal, April – November. Part time, 25-35 hours/week.

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Farm Manager

Pay Scale: $12 – $14/ hour, based on education and experience.

Purpose: Working under the direction of the Gorman Heritage Farm Manager to care for livestock and poultry, grounds and building maintenance, and assist with management of Volunteers.

Farm Assistant Job Responsibilities:

• Daily correspondence with and oversight of Farmyard Volunteers.

• Inventory and purchasing supplies as needed.

• Work with Education Team to educate visitors and groups, including all prep for groups.

• Manage Volunteer groups to maximize efficiency of work in Farmyard.

• Feeding, watering, cleaning, basic medical care and pasture rotation for livestock and poultry

• Maintain all records including but not limited to animal inventory, health, feeding and pasture rotation, volunteer tasks, daily tasks, etc.

• Grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming and snow removal as needed

• Maintenance and upkeep of buildings, fences, gates, latches and other property and equipment

• Attend and take notes at weekly farmyard meeting

• Deliver livestock to processing facility

• Assist with meat sales at Farm Shop.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Skills: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, High School Diploma/GED and relevant work experience required. Basic knowledge of livestock care as well as grain crops. Good communications skills. Positive attitude. Passion for the mission of Gorman Heritage Farm.

Physical demands of the Gorman Heritage Farm Assistant Job: This position requires very strenuous physical activities. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Equipment operated: Tractors, truck with trailer, utility vehicles, hand tools, power tools, computer, printer/copier, and other equipment found in office, farm and teaching environment.
