Farm Apprenticeship in Florida
Farm Apprenticeship in Florida, 2014
Sweetwater Farm is a non-profit, community-supported urban organic farm and educational center located in the Town n' Country area of Tampa, Florida (just northwest of TIA). Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all ages practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques. Sweetwater Organic Community Farm is looking for 3 full-time Apprentices (October 2014 through May 2015) who are interested in gaining hands-on sustainable (organic) farming experience. The primary thrust of the work effort will be to seed, plant, weed, harvest and maintain approximately 4 acres of organic vegetables for Sweetwater's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and Sunday Market programs. The results of these efforts will provide more than 500 families with fresh, local, organic produce.
Apprentices generally work Wed-Sunday, 40 hours per week, side by side with our farmers. On-site living accommodations, Full CSA share, and a small weekly stipend are provided.
Apprentices gain practical, hands-on farming experience at one of the most respected and oldest CSA farms in the U.S. In addition to providing sustainable farming experience and contributing to an exciting growth industry, this position will expose apprentices to real-world farming challenges and foster lifelong experiences.
