Farm and Forest Manager / Caretaker Couple for Private Residence in Homestead, Florida, 2020

Overview:

Compassion Farm is our private residence – a 5acre nature preserve/forest with walking trails, tall trees, lots of nature and great spaces just 30 minutes from Miami International Airport. We are looking for a qualified candidate or couple with no children or pets to complete the work below

The Caretakers will live on the property in their own private building with a private entrance with all living expenses paid.

The Caretakers building comes with its own bath and laundry, high-speed internet great lighting and air conditioning, private outdoor space, parking of course and it is very private and very comfortable. The apartment can also come fully furnished or unfurnished.

The position carries a 15 hour per week work commitment for Caretaker responsabilities mentioned below PLUS Pet Related Responsibilities mentioned below so the position is ideal for:

• Students obtaining advanced degrees
• People with jobs
• People who have their own online business
• People who work remotely using the internet
• People who are retired or partially retired.

Pet Related Responsibilities: (Commitment: As required)

• Daily: live with, take care of and provide companionship for our (2) foster dogs.
• Daily, Feed and change litter for (3) family cats who live in their own shed.
• Periodically: Take care of, feed and walk our other family dogs when we are traveling.

Care Taker:  (Commitment: 15 hours per week)

• Perform gardening including maintenance of Forrest and trails
• Prepare new plantings.
• Perform maintenance as required on systems (like sprinklers) and gardening and other equipment.
• Contact, and manage outside vendors called in to perform repairs.
• Perform basic housekeeping daily in the main house (a 1 bedroom, 1 bath cottage).
• Periodically clean the office/studio.
• Plant-based cooking and juicing a few times a week.

Requirements:

• Be fluent in English
• Love animals and have experience taking care of them
• Have a background with landscaping and planting
• Permaculture experience or Horticulture background a plus
• Be highly organized and used to working with a list and calendar.
• Be Detail-oriented
• Is a good communicator
• A problem-solver mindset able to analyze and resolve issues and problems
• Must be flexible and adaptable
• Possess a calm demeanor, a can-do attitude, a collaborative and communicative nature
• Maintains a plant-based diet (or willing to adhere to a 100% plant-based diet while on the property)
• Must be non-smoker
• Computer skills
• Construction or handyman experience a plus

The Farm and Forest Manager / Caretaker Couple Opportunity

In addition to the above, we have dozens of fruit trees (Papayas, Mango, Lychee, Almonds, SourSop, Lemon and Limes) as well as 2 acres of excellent land for row crops.  It is a dream of mine to partner with a farmer and grubstake her or him (by funding all the materials, seeds and equipment required to farm this excellent land allowing them to raise organic crops for all of our users with the rest going to market to support this farmer for all his good work.
