Employment and Potential Farm Partnership Opportunity In Missouri – 2019

Located in the heart of a small historic town (Harrisonville Missouri) a turn of the century two story house is being restored, and 1/4 acre backyard urban farm is starting to emmerge. This will be no formal experience/job, this is a oppurtunity of growth and collaboration. This employment and farm partnership opportunity is aimed at person who wants the experience of starting a farm from the ground up. I have layed the foundations by building great soil but in need of a person who wants to take the reigns of starting a business (literally 2 blocks away from the farmers market so easy access to a market).

I am 31 (M) omnivore that graduated with a degree in Sustainable Agriculture/Natural Resources. I have gardened for 4 years and interned at a Market Garden that focused on value added products for a summer. I have a deep love for cooking, growing food, and learning. I just started to hunt and forage and really enjoying it. I want to learn how to brew beer/wine. I bought a house that needed remodeling, and finished the bottom floor and live in it now. There will be a Large room that will be yours and shared bathroom/kitchen. My goal is to finish the upstairs (another two bedrooms and master bathroom). I started a online business and remodeling a house, so starting a market garden has been put on the back burner.

What type of person I am looking for for the employment and farm partnership opportunity? I am looking for someone who has at least a few years working on farms especially with high value crops (since I have only 1/4 acre to work with). Better if you have actually started a successful farm business. Someone who is completely self confident working alone in the garden.  This is more of a open ended type opportunity, so if you don’t know what type of business you would start and how to do it, this opportunity is not for you. I am also looking for someone who is genuinely a great person, super easy to get along with, a loving heart, and does not judge others even if there is a disagreement. I am very willing to compromise and make things worth for the both of us, this is a type of situation that will both help us reach our goals as long as we put time into communicating our needs. I realize starting a successful farm enterprise is going to be challenging, so I am very understanding that this needs to be started small and expanded organically overtime. More than anything I am seeking the right person to live with and to grow as individuals, if we know that we work really well together then if the business does not work out, we can switch around the dynamics of the situation at large.

What I need from the employment and farm partnership opportunity: 16 Hours a week (Either 2 days of 8 hours or 4 days of 4 hours) help restoring the upper level of the home. This will involve very basic skills which I can teach you. Everything from sheetrock, mudding, sanding, building walls, demolition, fixing hardwood floors. An eagerness to learn, get dirty, be in uncomfortable working conditions will be necessary. I am an easy going guy who loves to makes jokes, laugh, so it should be no problem working together. I have a bad back with limited flexibility so there are quite a few things that I need help with that require 2 people. I also need help doing landscaping/weed management.

This is the most important part of the employment and farm partnership opportunity: I need someone who can take the reigns of starting a business. Who will see this as truly a special opportunity to make something special happen. How that evolves is entirely up to you. I have literally layed the foundation by turning my whole backyard into a Back to eden garden, it has turned into the best soil you could work with. Most of my time I will be involved with my business and restoring my house, but I will do whatever I can to help/support you on this task. Last year I did not have the time to have a proper garden, so I could not manage it properly and the weeds got out of control. I put tarps on the garden so it is now protected. With only 16 hours dedicated to helping me, you will have ample time to create a thriving garden/business. I have all the gardening tools, hand tools, power tools, and resources to get you started. I do not have a greenhouse, so that is one of the first projects that needs to get done. What I am offering is someone can essentially live for free by working 16 hours a week and have the opportunity to create their own job. I would prefer whoever is applying to have a car/access to capital to make this dream a reality. There are certain things I going to help you to get started like build a greenhouse pretty much immediately.

What you will get from the employment and farm partnership opportunity: Free room, board, and access to wifi. I do have a bike that you can also use, a very extensive book collection everything from strale bale building, cob structures, greenhouse designs, canning, permaculture, animal husbandry, etc. The library is a stones throw away. The whole town is within biking distance, with the park nearby too. I have a large collection of seeds you can use too.
