Immediate opening: 4-month position with James Ranch Artisan Cheese, an organic, 100% grass-fed cow dairy and cheese making operation in Durango, Colorado. Hands-on experience with all aspects of cheese production, including low-stress animal handling, milking, cheese-making, biological monitoring, marketing, financial planning, Holistic Management, and land stewardship. The James Ranch has been recognized for innovation and leadership in sustainable agriculture.s
James Ranch Artisan Cheese has partnered with the Quivira Coalition, a conservation non-profit in Santa Fe, NM, to offer agricultural apprenticeships through Quivira’s New Agrarian Program (NAP). The explicit intent of NAP apprenticeships is to train the next generation of agrarian leaders. They now seek a short-term apprentice for the James Ranch to start immediately.
Enthusiasm and sincere commitment to sustainable agriculture and food production is more important than experience, though experience with large animals and dairy is a plus.
