Ger-Nis Culinary & Herb Center, located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, is seeking entry level culinary interns to assist in the daily operations and the advancement of our culinary center. This is a very unique entry level position, and interns will gain experience in all operations of the culinary center. The culinary interns will report directly to the culinary center manager. Tasks and duties include helping us manage our events program, culinary classes, and children’s cooking programs, community outreach, guerilla marketing; the whole gamut. We’re looking for someone who has a passion for food and experience in the food and culinary world. Applicants should have some experience in a working kitchen; basic skills of cooking and prep are mandatory. Microsoft Office Suite, Word Press, Adobe Illustrator, CS5, Photoshop, are a plus but not absolutely necessary. Applicants must be very organized, with a high level of attention to detail. Applicants should also have a talent for writing and editing if they care to participate in our internship writing program in which they are allowed to submit work for publication. Applicants must have some weeknights and weekends available as the majority of the work will be at these times. Detailed Job Descriptions
Culinary Class Intern: In addition to the above overall description, the culinary class intern will be responsible for assisting culinary instructors with classes as well as organizing prep work in the kitchen prior to classes and preparing handouts and all other materials needed for classes. They will set up according to instructor preferences and clean up according to procedures. Culinary interns will get to work with some of Brooklyn’s best chefs and artisans as well as farmers and also participate in many of our events that take place at our center. We have quite a few amazing events coming up this winter and are in need of revved up culinary folks! This is an exciting opportunity for the right, hard working person who wants to learn more about the food world and network and grow as a sustainable foodie! (This is a 24 -30+ hour a week internship plus opportunity to assist our big events…… nights and weekends a MUST!
Hours Available (Part Time Only):
Mon-Tue-Wed-Thur-Fri 5 -10 PM; Saturday 9 am -2 PM, 2 PM -8 PM; *as needed for special events
