New worker cooperative farm and CSA seeking co-farmers.
East Brook Farm is a brand new farm and CSA on 90acs in Walton NY in the western Catskills. The business is structured as a worker-coop. They are looking for other farmers who are open to the risks and rewards that come with being part of a cooperative start-up. Compensation is based on profit sharing.
The plan is for a whole-farm CSA as an economic and community base to the farm, with an intention to expand into other markets and products over time. Already they have a line of hand crafted herbal medicinal and personal care products, and future interests are in the nursery trade, permaculture design and installations, small dairy, animal breeding, wildcrafting, fermented foods, small crafts and more. Those with an existing skillset are encouraged to consider an application to see if their own entrepreneurial passions might find a home there.
The type of people that will fit in well have a passion and interest in permaculture and ecological farming, sustainable living, cooperative economics, and food and social justice. This could be a good opportunity for motivated beginners as well as for experienced farmhands, the most important qualification being a shared intention for cooperative engagement, and a willingness to explore becoming creative partners.
