Compost Manager Job Summary:
Oversee production, operations, and sales for the composting facility at Champ’s Farms in Aldergrove, BC. Develop and manage policies and procedures for the compost program to ensure optimal functioning and continuous operation. The responsibilities include compost management, ensuring compost system uptime, and projects related to farm expansion. Support and train the composting staff in a manner that creates engagement and productivity within the team. The composting facility at Champ’s Farms processes.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a composting leadership role in a medium-sized facility, preferably food processing Post-secondary education in technical field, valid trade license, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of the BC Environmental Management Act. Strong food processing and/or agricultural background to support composting activities. Previous exposure to working with Enterprise / Manufacturing Resource Planning systems considered an asset. Knowledge of how to apply Lean Manufacturing, TPM and OEE to waste management approaches is considered an asset.

Role and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the vision, mission and strategy development for all current and future composting operations
- Responsible for ensuring compost facility’s permits and compliance with the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA) and Organic Matter Recycling Regulation (OMRR)
- Collaborate with senior leadership to create composting processes and policies, aligned with Champ’s Mushrooms’ business goals
- Ensure key performance indicators for department are met and develop best practices to maximize potential.
- Manage compost budget and ensure appropriate cost controls are in place
- Address any issues pertaining to composting or organic waste management as well as the health and safety of employees
- Ensure that all workers adhere to policies & procedures
- Foster a culture of continual improvement and profitability
- Foster a culture of respect and collaborative team work
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned as required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work with a high degree of independence and autonomy
- Knowledge of compost planning and system implementation
- Ability to create maintain a high-performance workplace culture through employee lifecycle
- Knowledge of organic waste management practices within a food processing plant
- Understanding of compost equipment, technologies and limitations and their effect on safety, quality, and productivity
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Enterprise / Manufacturing Resource Planning systems
- Working knowledge of quality assurance and good manufacturing practices
- Scheduling & employee management, including hiring and terminations
- Mushroom farming experience is considered an asset
