Call for Workshop Proposals! National Young Farmers Conference

Every December, hundreds of beginning farmers from across the United States gather at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture to learn from agricultural luminaries, peers, and advocacy organizations at the National Young Farmers Conference. On December 4-6, 2013, Stone Barns Center will host the 6th annual conference in Tarrytown, NY.

A brief addendum:

The above might lead some to conflate “young farmers” and “beginning farmers.” But, according to Mary Ahearn and Doris Newton of the USDA Economic Research Service, “Beginning farmers enter agriculture at all ages, not just young ages, and at all farm sizes.” Indeed, “about a third of beginning farmers are 55 years or older,” though, it is also the case that “beginning farms are more likely than established farms to be small farms operated by younger operators.”

The source of the above USDA ERS quotation can be found here.
