Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship Program, Oregon

Multnomah County, in partnership with Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service, is excited to announce the pilot year of the Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship (BUFA) program.

The program is an 8-month, season-long training for aspiring urban farmers and community land stewards. It is designed to give a new generation of beginning farmers the foundation they need to break into the field of sustainable small-scale, urban farming.

Participants will gain the knowledge and skills of urban farming through:

  • Classroom training, field trips and an online learning platform
  • Hands-on, in-the-field apprenticeship with experienced local farmers
  • OSU’s established Growing Farms: Successful Whole Farm Management Workshop Series, which is focused on farm business planning.

Application deadline: November 15, 2011 – January 15, 2012.  Scholarships available. Website and Applications: https://www.multco.us/sustainability/bufa
