For over a decade, the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) has served as the only federal program dedicated to training the next generation of farmers. The latest round of BFRDP grant awards – totaling $16.7 million in grant funding – was announced last month.

Farm to School Projects – $10 Million in Grants Available and a New Streamlined Application Option
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the opening of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Farm to School (F2S) Grant Program request for applications (RFA). Since 2012, the program has provided approximately $5 million in grants each year, on a competitive basis, to schools, nonprofits, state and local agencies, agricultural producers, and American Indian tribal organizations to increase local food procurement for school meal programs and to expand educational activities related to agriculture and food. NSAC Co-Hosts Webinar on Black Farm Cooperatives
Last month, NSAC facilitated a virtual panel alongside the Cooperative Food Empowerment Directive (CoFED) to celebrate the accomplishments, history, and challenges of Black farm cooperatives in the United States. The webinar featured experts in cooperative development and history, farmers, and almost 300 participants who engaged in a robust Q&A session during the latter portion of the event. Together, they shared tools, resources, and examples of how to build sustainable economies through cooperative farming.
Position Announcement: Policy Specialist in Conservation
The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is seeking a passionate and collaborative policy advocate to
represent our Coalition’s conservation policy portfolio. This position will serve as our in house “expert” on agricultural conservation and environmental issues and legislation, with a specific focus on working lands conservation programs, climate change, renewable energy, and farmland protection programs. The Coservation Policy Specialist also collaborates with the rest of the policy team on shared campaigns and helps to further our racial equity efforts. Deadline to apply is November 9th.
