Organic Certification Cost Share Funds Available - Deadline: Varies by State Organic farmers and processors are invited to apply for certification cost share funds for federal fiscal year 2009 (October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009). The current Federal Farm Bill provides funding for this popular program that helps organic farmers and processors with the cost of their organic certification, an annual expense. Payments to eligible producers will be limited to 75 percent of an individual producer's or handler's certification costs up to a maximum of $750.00. Iowa: The Iowa Organic Program of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) will administer the dissemination of these funds to eligible Iowa organic producers and processors. Applications for cost share funds will be reimbursed in the order they are received and until the funds are exhausted or the eligibility period ends, whichever comes first. Illinois: Administered by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, reimbursements will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the limited program funds are exhausted. Minnesota: Applications are being accepted by MDA from now until October 15, 2009. To qualify, applicants must submit an MDA application form, proof of certification during the qualifying period, and copies of billing statements from their certifier that itemize the costs incurred. All applications must be postmarked by October 15, 2009. The MDA has already mailed application packets to more than 800 certified organic operations in the state.  Any certified organic farmer or processor who did not receive a packet can obtain the necessary materials on the MDA’s web site
