This report details grants and other incentives available in the Northeast states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island serviced by Farm Credit East. The listings include grant programs, tax incentives and loan programs from various funding sources available to agricultural producers and other entities involved in agriculture or related industries. Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge Ag Funding Opportunities
This national business competition showcases U.S. startups developing innovative solutions that address challenges facing farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. The American Farm Bureau Federation and Farm Credit are looking to identify the top entrepreneurs addressing both traditional challenges and new challenges in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Farm Bureau will award $145,000 in startup funds to 10 businesses. Learn more and apply by August 14.
NRCS Offering Technical and Financial Assistance for Urban Agriculture
The New York Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) opened sign-up for technical and financial assistance for agricultural producers in areas identified to be in urban areas. This program offers an opportunity for urban farmers to compete for funding in a program developed to meet their needs. Learn more and apply by August 21.
NYS Dairy Promotion Order Issued a Requests for Proposals
As part of its $15 million fund, the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets’ Dairy Promotion Order seeks innovative research projects that focus on increasing consumer demand for New York-produced fluid milk and dairy products and further ensuring dairy product safety. Eligible applicants include non-profit entities, research institutions, and private businesses that are not affiliated with the DPO Advisory Board. Project proposals may not promote a specific brand or trade name. Learn more and apply by August 24.
Applications Still Open for Coronavirus Food Assistance Program Ag Funding Opportunities
This USDA program provides direct relief to producers who faced price declines and additional marketing costs due to COVID-19. You are eligible to apply if you have suffered a five percent-or-greater price decline and produce any of the following commodities: wool, livestock, dairy, specialty crops (fruits, vegetables, nuts, others) and non-specialty crops (specific grains and oil-crops). Cornell Cooperative Extension specialists have created a new fact sheet on CFAP specifically for NYS fruit and vegetable farms. Learn more and apply by August 28 through your local Farm Service Agency Service Center.
Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers
USDA Office of Advocacy and Outreach is inviting applications for Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers (also known as the 2501 program). The overall goal is to encourage and assist socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, veteran farmers and ranchers, and beginning farmers and ranchers with owning and operating farms and ranches and in participating equitably in the full range of agricultural, forestry, and related programs offered by USDA. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, institutions of higher education, and Tribal governments. Funding ranges from $50,000 to $450,000.
