Access to Land for Beginning Farmers Campaign

With nearly half of all U.S. farmland expected to change hands in the next 15 years, we see the upcoming Farm Bill as a critical opportunity to address the inequity that exists in land ownership and facilitate secure, affordable land access for the next generation of farmers.

Today, we are launching the One Million Acres for the Future Campaign to advocate for equitable land policy in the 2023 Farm Bill. We are building a coalition to win a $2.5 billion investment in the next farm bill to facilitate equitable access to one million acres of land for the next generation of farmers. 

The Farm Bill is the major legislation that impacts every aspect of our food system, but it only happens every five years. This is a pivotal moment to take action to shift the inequity that exists in land access, to stop BIPOC land loss, and to invest in the young and BIPOC farmers who are motivated to steward land and feed their communities.  

To win this change and improve access to land for beginning farmers, we are building a coalition of partner organizations, engaging D.C. policymakers, and launching the 2022-2023 Land Advocacy Fellowship.

This two-year, paid advocacy and leadership fellowship will resource 100 young farmers, growers, and land stewards to build momentum and shift power to advocate for equitable land policy in the 2023 Farm Bill. The fellowship will include mentorship, professional development, advocacy training, a stipend of $3000 per year, and a November 2022 Young Farmer fly-in to Washington, D.C. Applications are open until January 15, 2022.
