Departmental Information: The Department of Health & Human Development at Montana State University (MSU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Food and Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems. The department is located in the College of Education, Health and Human Development (EHHD). The departmental mission is to enrich human well-being through teaching research and outreach. This position begins January 2011 or August 2011 and is a nine-month, tenure-track, appointment with potential for summer employment. This will be an instructional position (50% teaching, 40% research, and 10% service) in an ADA accredited didactic program in dietetics, an inter-college program in Sustainable Foods and Bioenergy Systems, and an interdisciplinary master s program in Health Promotion and Education, Family, Food, and Community Health Sciences.

MSU is a comprehensive land grant university serving approximately 13,000 students in its baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Within the college of EHHD, the Department of Health & Human Development offers six undergraduate and several graduate programs. Accredited programs within the department reflect its diversity and include CACREP, ADA, and NAEYC. In collaboration with the College of Agriculture, the Department of Health and Human Development operates a university farm, Towne s Harvest Garden which serves as an outdoor classroom and laboratory for the Sustainable Food and Bioenergy Systems degree program and provides opportunities for campus and community service.

Duties and
# Responsibilities Teach undergraduate courses such as, but not limited to: general nutrition, community nutrition, international nutrition and food culture, culinary foodservice systems management and quantity foods practicum; teach graduate courses in an area of specialty that can contribute to departmental graduate programming.
# Advise undergraduate dietetic students, supervise undergraduate field experiences (internships.
# Advise graduate students and chair graduate committees.
# Develop an extramurally funded research program.
# Provide outreach and service to the university and the citizens of Montana and the nation; represent the program to the general public through participation in professional organizations.
# Potentially contribute to instruction in a new dietetic internship in Montana with emphasis on rural health and a concentration on sustainable food systems.

Required
Qualifications
1. Doctorate or ABD in food and nutrition or related field. (ABD – ability to be terminally degreed one year after the date of hire. Tenure track status begins after completion of terminal degree)

2. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels and a proven ability to be an effective instructor.

3. Record of or potential to develop an independent research program in the area of food and nutrition, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and external funding.

4. Proven ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary fashion through teaching, research and outreach efforts with faculty in other health related disciplines such as community health, health and human performance, family and consumer sciences, etc.

5. Practical experience in the area of sustainable food systems and the public health implications of nutrition.

1. Dietetic registration.

3. Proven desire to support the departmental mission of enriching human well-being through teaching, research and outreach efforts.

4. Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to the work environment and culture within HHD.
