USDA Invests Over $11 Million in Research for Small and Mid-Sized Farms

Twenty-four grants have been awarded to 20 institutions for research that would help small and medium-sized farm operators increase their competitiveness in local markets while providing greater access to food in their communities. The awards toward research for small and mid-sized farms total $11.5 million, and are provided by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grant program, the nation’s largest competitive grants program for agricultural research.

Release: Annual Cynthia Hayes Memorial Scholarships Awarded to Three Rising Stars in Sustainable Agriculture

Three students, Erniko Brown, Cyheim McRae, and Kristen Dunning, are each being presented with Cynthia Hayes Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $3,000 to help further their work in sustainable agriculture and with communities of color. 

The scholarship program, now in its fourth year, is presented in partnership with  Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) and Southeastern African American Farmers’ Organic Network (SAAFON) and aims to support Black and Indigenous students within MANRRS who are interested in doing work within sustainable agriculture and are committed to working on issues that impact Black farmers.

NSAC is Hiring!

Are you a self-professed policy wonk and curious what it takes to move the needle on pressing national agricultural policy issues like climate change? If so, please consider applying to be NSAC’s new Policy Fellow! 

NSAC is currently seeking a Policy Fellow to start in May 2021 and lasting until May 2022. This position is paid, full-time, includes benefits, and is located at NSAC’s Washington, D.C. office on Capitol Hill. Full-time remote work for a portion of the position tenure is possible due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
