About Stone Acres Farm:

Stone Acres Farm is a sixty-five acre working farm located in the historic coastal New England town of Stonington, Connecticut. The property’s rolling hills, gardens, and acres of vegetable production are open to visitors.  We celebrate natural farming, sustainable food, culinary education and the preservation of open space, cultural landscapes, and historic structures.  Located within ½ mile of Stonington harbor, Stone Acres is unique given its access to the sea, livestock, and vegetable resources.

Head Farm Manager Job Description:  

We are currently seeking an experienced farmer to oversee our mixed vegetable production. This is a full-time salaried position starting April to May. Subsidized housing may be available.  You will be in charge of your own crew with P&L responsibility and report directly to the CEO.

  • Leadership roll responsible for managing plantings, harvesting and rotation of products in the fields and high-tunnels for a year round outdoor growing operation.
  • Ensure all appropriate record keeping procedures are maintained. 
  • Coordinate and manage the 200+ member CSA program or variations thereof that helps promote the farm and increase produce sales. 
  • Assist the Director of External Relations with community outreach, including presentations or workshops that are coordinated with the on-site Yellow Farmhouse Education Center.
  • Other responsibilities include assistance with social media and onsite farm events
  • Excellent communications skills to effectively interact with managers, owners, fellow workers and customers. 

Qualifications:

  • At least two full seasons working on a farm and/or degree or training in agriculture.
  • Experience in designing and implementing your own crop plan
  • Divisional P&L responsibility
  • Previous experience managing groups of people including staff, students, or volunteers
  • Tractor skills and mechanical know-how.
  • Passion for farming and healthy food systems.
  • Knowledge and skill in all aspects of crop and poultry production.

This is a year round position with longer hours in the summer, shorter hours in the winter;  with seasonal flexibility.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience in the range of $45K to $55K
  • Potential for share ownership and annual bonuses. Subsidized on-site housing may be available
