Farm Manager Positions and a Caretaker Position are Now Available at Allegheny Mountain Institute in Virginia for the 2021 Season

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI) is a 501c3 nonprofit working to cultivate healthy communities through food and education in Augusta and Highland Counties, Virginia. 

AMI is hiring for 2 Farm Manager positions and one part-time Caretaker position:

Allegheny Farm Manager (Full-time):

AMI seeks a farm manager to oversee day-to-day operations of production gardens and livestock operations on the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA while supporting educational experiences. The farm serves as the campus for our Farm and Food Fellowship, an experiential and residential program in which Fellows deepen their farming skills while connecting with nature, building community, and exploring critical issues related to the food system. The farm manager should possess strong, practical knowledge of agricultural methods that improve soil health and preserve the watershed and be an energetic problem-solver and multitasker who has a demonstrated ability to work on diverse, remote, and in-person teams. This full-time and exempt position will supervise two Fellows and will report to the Executive Director. Work hours may fluctuate and are dependent on seasonal and organizational needs.

Farm Manager at the AMI Farm at Augusta Health (Full-time)

AMI seeks a farm manager for the AMI Farm at Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA to grow vegetables using sustainable agricultural practices that improve soil health. Focused on food security for disease prevention and community wellness, the farm is a joint venture with Augusta Health and aimed at integrating fresh, nutrient-dense vegetables into the hospital food system, clinical integration initiatives and community outreach programs. The farm manager should possess strong, practical knowledge of organic and regenerative growing practices, have the ability to vision, plan, and execute a project, and effectively work on a diverse team. This is a full-time and exempt position. The farm manager will supervise two Fellows and will report to the Director of Farming and the Executive Director. Work hours may fluctuate and are dependent on seasonal and organizational needs.

Allegheny Farm Caretaker (Part-time)

AMI seeks a farm caretaker to maintain and manage the roads, water systems, vehicles and equipment, and stewardship of the overall acreage and perimeter of the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. The caretaker should possess practical knowledge of agricultural methods that improve soil health and preserve the watershed.  The person must be reliable and be able to manage tasks independently. The person in this part-time non-exempt position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Allegheny Farm Manager. Work hours may fluctuate and are dependent on seasonal and organizational needs.
